The Group of Eight (G-8) is not a formal organization. It is informal gatherings of the eight most economically powerful nations in the world ? U.S., Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada and Russia. The President of the European Union also sits in. These countries have been meeting annually since 1975 (Canada joined in 1976) (Russia joined in 1997).
They meet to discuss macro-economic and trade issues affecting their countries. As the most important country-economies in the world, this closed door arrangement sets the agenda for globalization on many fronts.
Please plan to attend to hear how this will affect Southern Alberta. The Canadian Labour Congress Unites 2.5 Million Canadian workers, and pursues social and economic justice for working people.
