Largely because of increasing global oil shortages, Alberta’s economy continues to boom. But what is happening to our quality of life? With more and more people pouring into the province every day, can the social services, to which we have become accustomed, keep pace? Waiting times for healthcare have increased, so has the demand for places at our schools and universities. Spiraling property prices are making many of our towns and cities unaffordable for those on low or fixed incomes. Seniors are hardest hit. And what about the toll the economic boom is exacting on the environment?

Brian Mason, the Leader of Alberta’s New Democrat Opposition, will outline his views on the key issues facing the province.

Brian Mason is the leader of the Alberta New Democratic Party. Following his Political Science studies at the University of Alberta, he served as the Executive Director of the Alberta Federation of Students from 1977-1979. He then worked as a bus driver with Edmonton Transit Services. In 1989, Mr. Mason was elected as a city councilor for Edmonton’s Ward 3, where he remained for the next 11 years. He won a provincial by-election in Edmonton Highlands in 2000 and was re-elected in 2001 and 2004. In 2004, Brian Mason became the Leader of Alberta’s New Democrat Opposition.
