Alberta has a new political party on Prov. scene. Greg Clark will discuss the history of the modern Alberta Party and talk about how societal changes driven by the rise of social media and legitimate concerns about the environmental impact of our energy industry, including climate change, are altering the expectations of Alberta voters. He will also address the question of whether Alberta’s progressive parties should merge and will give his comments on Alberta’s overall political landscape, and make the case that only a new political party can adapt to the evolving expectations of Alberta voters.
SPEAKER Greg Clark, leader of The Alberta Party
Greg Clark was born and raised in Alberta. He’s an entrepreneur, husband, father and community leader. He completed his undergraduate degree on the West Coast, then worked in the Alberta Legislature for Leader of the Official Opposition Laurence Decore. This experience gave Greg insight into how politics works, and how it often doesn’t. He then worked for several information technology companies before completing his MBA, earning an entrance scholarship and top marks in his class. After graduation Greg taught Business Management at the University of Calgary faculty of Continuing Education. He joined with two partners to create the consulting firm C3 Associates. C3 works with energy companies to help them manage the vast amounts of information and documents they create, and also helps them to optimize the knowledge generated by the people working in these organizations.
Greg has served as co-chair of William Reid School Parent Council, coached his daughter’s soccer team, volunteered with HomeFront and Calgary Reads, was Vice Chair of Distress Centre Calgary and co-founded the Calgary River Communities Action Group in response to the 2013 floods. But Greg’s true passion is his family. He is married to Jessica, a palliative care physician working at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary. They are proud parents of two daughters who are both in elementary school in the public system.
Greg sold his share of C3 to his partners to enter politics full time. He was elected leader of the Alberta Party on September 21, 2013.
