The speaker will contend that Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are versatile, experienced clinicians with extensive clinical training and graduate level specialization. NPs are completely independent health professionals and require no outside supervision of their practice. They bring a wealth of knowledge to provide high-quality care in a variety of settings. NPs have been in Canada for more than 50 years and are the most researched healthcare provider, consistently demonstrating high quality safe, effective health care delivery.

NPs offer timely, realistic, and sustainable solutions to address our health care crisis which leaves over 700,000 Albertans without access to essential primary care services and they are helping improve access to primary care for Albertans. The Government of Alberta’s new funding model and commitment to NPs means over 50 NPs will join the primary care workforce this year.
