Early Child Development Mapping Initiative

The Early Child Development (ECD) Mapping Initiative, led by Alberta Education, is a five year research and community development activity that includes implementation of the Early Development Instrument (EDI) in kindergarten classes across the province. The initiative will help Albertans to better understand how their young children are doing and to work together to support healthy development. The initiative is funded by the Government of Alberta and supports the Education Minister’s priority to improve broad based support and early intervention initiatives for at–risk children to improve their learning outcomes.

Climate Reality: The Science, the Denial Industry, the Way Forward

The Galt Museum & Archives is committed to sustainability within its own organization. 2012 marks the third year it is participating in Earth Hour [March 31, 8:30-9:30 pm] and it will be host to the exhibit “Earth’s Climate in the Balance” from January 21 – April 22, 2012. The Cancun Climate Change Conference Deal: What Does it Mean?

Delegate’s from all 194 countries except one agreed to cut carbon emissions and assist developing countries tackle climate change as part of a “historic” deal in Cancun to help stop global warming. The deal falls far short of what many scientists, environmentalist and the country of Bolivia claim is needed to stop catastrophic global warming. But it represents a step towards the eventual goal of many, a legally binding treaty aimed at preventing temperatures rising more than 2C this century.
